East Outlet

I just got back from fishing the East Outlet with Paul. Water was 43 when we started and the fishing started out just as cold. When ths sun got higher and the air got warmer, the fishing picked up as well. By 3 pm(when I quit for the day) the water had gotten up to 48. We caught fish throughout the river, mostly on nymphs. Dark in about size 16 seemed to work the best. You also had to get deep , if we weren't catchin bottom we weren't catchin fish. I also caught fish on a mckay special and a wooley bugger. Early afternoon there was a hatch of small mayflies (BWO), and later there were a few Hendricksons popping off. Nothing feeding on the surface however. The river was only running about 1000 CFS, which is low, but did alow us to get to some holes that are usually not easily accesible. I caught 7 Salmon. The first was 18.5 inches, the biggest I’ve caught on a fly, until I caught a 19 incher later in the day. I also caught another 18”, 3 16”, and a 14 incher.
